PTA & Cells


Parent Teachers Association was formed in the year of beginning of the Ponnani MES College in 1975. PTA is a formal organization that consists of parents, teachers and staff to facilitate parental participation in college. PTA meetings were conducted on a regular basis. Every year new executive committee members are selected. The principal of the college will be the ex-officio president. The secretary will be a senior staff member. The Vice president,Joint Secretary and three parents are selected in PTA general body meeting.

Aims and objectives of PTA

  • To foster and promote cordial relationship among the parents, teachers and students of the college.
  • To help, guide and participate in various developmental activities of the college.
  • To render all possible assistance for smooth functioning of the college.
  • To institute scholarships/awards for praiseworthy students of the college.
  • To promote the activities of the college union, girls welfare association, various departments and training and placement cell etc.


"Ragging means doing an act which causes or is likely to insult or annoyance of fear or apprehension or threat or intimidation or outrage of modesty or injury to a student".

College has a zero tolerance policy towards ragging-related matters. Ragging is totally prohibited in the college including in its departments, constituent units, all its premises whether located within the campus or outside and in all means of transportation of students whether public or private. All issues in this regard will be dealt with paramount exigency and stringent action will be taken against those who are caught up. An anti-ragging cell is in operation in the college under the overall charge of the principal, to curb the menace of ragging; to make students aware of the dehumanizing effect of ragging inherent in its perversity; to keep a continuous watch and vigil over ragging so as to prevent its occurrence and recurrence; to promptly and sternly deal with the incidents of ragging brought to our notice and to generate an atmosphere of discipline by sending a clear message that no act of ragging shall be tolerated and any act of ragging shall not go unnoticed and unpunished.

As per the Gazette of India, July 4, 2009 UGC defines What constitutes Ragging.- Ragging constitutes one or more of any of the following acts:

  • Any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student;
  • Including in rowdy or in-disciplined activities by any student or students which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student;
  • Asking any student to do any act which such student will not in the ordinary course do and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, or torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of such fresher or any other student;
  • Any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts or disturb the regular academic activity of any other student or a fresher;
  • Any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts or disturb the regular academic activity of any other student or a fresher;
  • Exploiting the services of a fresher or any other student for completing the academic tasks assigned to an individual or a group of students
  • Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burden put on a fresher or any other student by students;
  • Any act of physical abuse including all variants of it: sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gesture, causing bodily harm or any other danger to health or person;
  • Any act or abuse by spoken words, emails, post, public insults which would also include deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious or sadistic thrill from actively or passively participating in the discomfiture to fresher or any other student;
  • Any act that affects the mental health and self-confidence of a fresher or any other student with or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or showing off power, authority or superiority by a student over any fresher or any other student.

Anyone found guilty of ragging and/or abetting ragging, whether actively or passively, or being a part of a conspiracy to promote ragging, is liable to be punished in accordance with the UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009 as well as under the penal law for the time being in force.

Organizational action in the occurrence of Ragging: -

Depending on the nature and gravity of the guilt documented by the Anti-Ragging Cell, one or more of the following punishments will be given to those who are found guilty:-

  • Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges.
  • Withholding/withdrawing scholarship/fellowship and other benefits.
  • Debarring from appearing in any test/examination or other evaluation process.
  • Withholding results.
  • Debarring from representing the institution in any regional, national or international meet, tournament, youth festival, etc.
  • Suspension/expulsion from the hostel.
  • Cancellation of admission.
  • Rustication from the institution for period ranging from one to four semesters.
  • Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution for a specified period.
